Mitsubishi Goes Green with Plant-Based Floor Mats

Nowadays Green cars are the trend in vehicle industry. But what makes a vehicle green, is more than what comes out of the tailpipe. Looks like Mitsubishi his taking a step ahead in that direction.

On a quest to reduce the carbon footprint of vehicles like Mitsubishi Lancer, the Japanese automaker is developing an environmentally friendly materials, known as "Green Plastics."

This new type of fiber, constructed from plant based resin is using sugarcane molasses wrapped in regular petroleum-based polypropylene sheaths,  to meet performance required, such as abrasion and heat resistance.

"Mitsubishi Motors?has developed a new floor mat made using plant-based bio-polyethylene (bio-PE) fiber to add to its lineup of proprietary plant-based "Green Plastic" products. The company plans to start production of the new floor mats in the summer of 2012," announced Mitsubishi officials.1
