What's A Good Credit Score?

You may have heard financial experts and advisors toss around terminology like "credit history" and "credit score." While you might have a basic grasp on what these mean, you might not know what exactly goes into having a good or bad credit score and what that entails.

There are different credit score scales and, ultimately, it depends on which organization you order your information from. One of the most well-known is the FICO score, which ranges from 300 to 850, but the Equifax credit score dips all the way down to 280. A good rule of thumb, however, is to go by these numbers:

Credit Score Biggers Mitsubishi

Below 600: Bad Credit

600-650: Poor Credit

650-700: Fair Credit

700-750: Good Credit

750+: Excellent Credit

Lenders use these numbers to determine who is or isn't "creditworthy," or a low-risk investment who can be trusted to make their payments on time. The higher your credit score, the lower your risk is for lenders. Before approaching a big financial leap like an auto loan, you should always do your research and be aware of your credit score in advance so you know what kind of budget to aim for.

To keep your credit score in good shape, it's best to have a longer credit history with a mixture of different types of credit used over time, with all payments made in a timely manner.
